Orthodontics for Kids

When is the best time to begin orthodontics?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child have an initial orthodontic exam by the age of seven.  Children under the age of seven may also benefit from early treatment to correct habits like thumb sucking. Most patients, like Nalchajian patient, Tyler (featured right), start treatment between the ages of 9 and 14. Children this age are usually excited to get braces and cooperative with their care.

What are the benefits of early orthodontic evaluation?

Sometimes, early orthodontic treatment is needed. Dr. Greg and Dr. Nicole only recommend early treatment for concerns that are treated by working with the growth that takes place in younger children. Early evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Prudent intervention sometimes guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later. Though your child may not be ready for treatment at a young age, an early examination allows Dr. Nalchajian to monitor their dental development to begin treatment at the optimal time.

Why is age 7 considered the optimal time for screening?

By age 7, the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite. During this time Dr. Nalchajian can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. We can clearly see whether there is significant crowding or bite problems, like an overbite or crossbite, and whether it is important to correct these problems early or later.

What are the advantages of interceptive treatment?

Some of the most direct results of interceptive treatment are:

  • Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth
  • Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
  • Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
  • Preserving space for unerupted teeth
  • Reducing the need for tooth removal
  • Reducing treatment time with braces

Complimentary Growth and Guidance Program

Even if your child is not ready for orthodontic treatment, they are still considered a part of the Nalchajian Family and they will be invited to participate in our Growth and Guidance Program. This program includes complimentary visits with Dr. Nalchajian to monitor your child’s dental development on a regular basis.  You’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing that treatment will only be recommended when your child is truly ready.

Each child in our Growth and Guidance program will participate in our World Points Rewards Club and receive points for keeping their appointments. We also offer the convenience of family discounts for multiple family members and a variety of payment options to choose from.
