SCL promotes the improvement of self-esteem in children from low-income families who require orthodontic treatment. Their aim is to provide help to families who are unable to afford the total cost of braces. SCL secures treatment for children by linking them to orthodontists who are willing to offer their expertise and services to children that fit the requirements.
Today more than 700 willing orthodontists have formed a partnership with Smiles Change Lives by donating time and effort so that they can change the lives of children that are both motivated and deserving from throughout the U.S.A.
An orthodontic procedure can be an expensive treatment for a family that has limited means but through SCL, caring orthodontists change the lives of children by offering their services. Families are only required to pay a $600 financial contribution to gain access to SCL’s provider network, which is only a fraction of the cost of a full brace treatment program. In return, SCL orthodontists offer high quality treatment in order to bring a healthy smile to needy children’s faces.
The children who are accepted onto the program, which is U.S. wide, must be motivated and adhere to the treatment program enforced by the orthodontist.
Children who qualify for this program have to be between 10 and 18 years old. They must have good dental hygiene habits and any cavities present must contain fillings. They, of course, should not be currently wearing braces. The total household income to qualify must be no more than 200% of the Federal poverty level.
As well as participating in Smiles Change Lives, Dr. Greg and Dr. Nicole at Nalchajian Orthodontics support other worthy causes every year as well. These include local community activities, such as the ACS cancer walk, blood drives, certain community groups’ activities and the SPCA charity helping animals.
